historyThe Golden Ox opened on the 21st of July, 1977, at Kippa-ring on the Redcliffe Peninsula. With Virginia handling customers out the front and me running the business and cooking, we strived to meet and exceed everyone’s expectations, and worked hard to develop dishes with the freshest seafood, aged beef, delicious chicken, poultry and even vegetarian meals. Luckily we received valuable support from the community and soon became known for our exceptional cuisine and service.

In 1980, after much hard work, we were able to relocate to new, architecturally designed premises in Margate featuring a restaurant, modern cocktail bar and two reception rooms. Throughout the years we’ve gone through even more changes and developments. In 2001, our spectacular private gardens were completed, and have played host to countless weddings and functions, and at the end of 2002 the restaurant and bar underwent further renovations to the interior, including significant development of the reception, cocktail bar, lighting and the introduction of an elegant wine display. A few years ago Peter Tzimas took over the role as head chef after working in all areas of The Golden Ox, including bar manager, front of house and events coordinator. He quickly excelled in his ability to masterfully balance complex tastes and skilfully present his creations like a work of art.

After a fantastic thirty five years, the team with the help of our loyal customers enabled us to become a recognised icon on the Redcliffe Peninsula, the north side and Brisbane and a positive force in the community. Over this period, the high standards of The Golden Ox have been recognized through numerous industry awards including Quest Business Achievers, Australian Bridal Industry Awards for Excellence, The Courier Mail’s People’s choice Awards our induction into the Quest Business Achievers Gold Hall of Fame. Our award-winning culinary creations are constantly evolving just as the restaurant is continually improving to provide you with the best modern dining experience. The Golden Ox culture is based on our deep seated love for hospitality. Our clientele base has rapidly spread to cover the entire North Side and beyond, with many customers travelling from even Caloundra and the Gold Coast to sample our exquisite dishes.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the 35 years we have spent in the hospitality business. We have a total of almost 13,000 days of experience in providing great looking and tasting food from fresh ingredients, an elegant atmosphere and outstanding service. The future is definitely looking great for The Golden Ox and you can be rest assured that we will continue striving even more to provide the standard of excellence in food and service we believe you deserve.
