On Your Marks, Get Set, EAT!
From 4-15 April, 2018, Australia will create its own slice of history when it hosts the 21st Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast (GC2018).
It will be the fifth time we have staged the Commonwealth Games; Sydney (1938), Perth (1962), Brisbane (1982) and Melbourne (2006) – making Australia the nation that has hosted the most number of Games.
Significantly, GC2018 will mark the first time a Commonwealth Games will be held in a regional Australian city.
To honour this historic event the team at The Golden Ox have prepared a special celebratory “Games” menu featuring the best of local produce: wild barramundi from North Queensland and Angus Beef from Winton and Cloncurry.
The first dish everyone has to try is the ‘Mitchell Cooper Special’ named after our very own Mitchell Cooper from Deception Bay, who will be representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games in discus. This dish features our very special Grilled Barramundi and Moreton Bay Bug Ravioli and is a meal not to be missed.
Also for your careful consideration on our menu is the Macadamia Barramundi. Barramundi is native to Australia, and is caught in both wild fisheries and farmed. The wild barramundi we are serving is from Queensland’s Burdekin River. It is found in both salt and fresh water and can have differing flavours depending on the habitat. In the wild, barramundi can grow up to 50kg and 1.5m long, though generally they’re caught at less than 6kg; the larger the fish, the firmer and flakier the flesh.
The rivalry between nations is nothing compared to the rivalry between seafood and meat so taking the fight up to the amazing seafood options is the Angus Beef porterhouse.
The usual healthy competition between Australia and New Zealand will be evident during the Games and regardless of whether you chose the seafood or steak, you need to finish the meal off with a delicious serving of “Aussie” Pavlova with whipped cream, fruit and berries and passionfruit coulis.
The Games have grown from an event featuring just 11 countries and 400 athletes to a modern sporting spectacular that includes 70 nations and territories and over 6,600 athletes and team officials.
From the team at The Golden Ox, we extend our best wishes to all of the participants for every success at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Remember this special menu is available for a limited time only so book your table today by calling (07) 3283 1833.
