The Golden Ox is delighted and humbled to be voted by diners as the winners of two new awards.

The family-owned and operated restaurant in Margate, on the Redcliffe Peninsula, has received Dimmi People’s Choice Awards for Best for Fine Dining (Regional) and Best for Special Occasion for February 2014.

This means The Golden Ox has been recognised as one of the top-rated restaurants for both high-quality dining and special occasions in Australia. It is the second time the restaurant has received the awards.

Owners Nick and Virginia Tzimas said they were humbled diners thought so highly of their restaurant and praised the whole Golden Ox team for their efforts.

“Everyone who works at The Golden Ox deserves credit for the awards,’’ Mr Tzimas said.

“It’s a family restaurant and the entire team is like a family. It’s fantastic to have such a highly motivated team.

“Head chef Peter Tzimas is a perfectionist who puts 110% into creating menus featuring sensational dishes using the freshest, local produce.

“Sustainability is very important to us. We use what’s in season.

“Chef de cuisine Shannon Farmer works alongside Peter and is a real asset. She’s wonderful. The two of them, together with apprentices Codie and Marcus and the others in the kitchen, are such a fantastic team.

“Virginia adds so much life with her ever-ready smile and puts our customers at ease with her friendly nature. She is the heart of The Golden Ox.

“We are fortunate to have Liz and Cathrine and everyone else who makes The Golden Ox the award-winning restaurant that it is.”

The Dimmi People’s Choice Awards are nationwide and represent the feedback and opinions of more than 300,000 diners.

The awards were given in recognition of The Golden Ox’s high-quality and beautifully presented food, commendable service and ambience.

The Golden Ox restaurant and events centre was established 37 years ago by Nick and Virginia Tzimas. It features modern premises with private, tropical celebration gardens, two stylish reception rooms, the restaurant and bar and The Pelican Decks for al fresco dining.
