Situated on the beautiful Redcliffe Peninsula, this family owned and operated restaurant has developed its position as an iconic, award-winning dining and events landmark for over 35 years. The Golden Ox’s exciting and inventive menu boasts the delights of fresh and local produce, and has become renowned for modern Australian cuisine with a classic twist.

The Golden Ox Restaurant opened in 1977 at Kippa-Ring and soon became popular with local residents for its great food, high standard of service and value for money.

In 1980, after much hard work, owners Nick and Virginia Tzimas were able to relocate to new, architecturally-designed premises in Margate featuring the restaurant, modern cocktail bar, two reception rooms and other facilities built around a central kitchen.

Owners Nick and Virginia have continued to upgrade and improve The Golden Ox over the years. Since their completion in 2001, the spectacular, private gardens have played host to a significant number of weddings and functions. At the end of 2002, the restaurant and bar underwent further renovations with the addition of the outdoor decks and cocktail bar.

The Golden Ox Restaurant is a family business proudly run by Nick, Virginia and son Peter. Peter has worked in all facets of the business including bar management, front of house and events coordination. Having shown a high level of talent and passion for cooking he has been extremely successful in his position as Head Chef.

Peter’s passion and the importance he places on quality produce is evident in all the dishes he makes. Continually trying to perfect his creations, Peter experiments with various sauces and combinations, balancing the flavours until the dish is perfect. The numerous awards and accolades won by The Golden Ox are a testament to his inventiveness and drive. Peter’s knowledge of contemporary cuisine ensures The Golden Ox menu continues to evolve and incorporate new and interesting dishes along with favoured classics.

Similar to our continually developing dining experience, the team at The Golden Ox ensures the venue persists in reinventing itself. Whether it’s the menu, the marketing approach or the architecture; they are dedicated to staying relevant and evolving throughout the 21st century.

The success of The Golden Ox has been largely due to the hard work and dedication of the owners Nick and Virginia Tzimas, Head Chef and son Peter Tzimas and the support of the team who have helped maintain the high standards of food and service that the restaurant has become known for.

Nick is keen to tell guests The Golden Ox is family owned and operated, with each facet of the venue being overseen by a family member. Virginia circulates on the floor of the restaurant and function rooms; Peter handles kitchen operations and Nick oversees the business.

Over the years, the high standards of The Golden Ox have been recognized through numerous industry awards including Quest Business Achievers, Australian Bridal Industry Awards for Excellence and The Courier Mail’s People’s choice Awards.
